Q: What is your favorite genre of dance?
A: Hip Hop
Q: Why do you dance?
A: When I dance, I feel like I am the most genuine me. To express myself and empower others, dance is a language that speaks to everyone. I also find dance has healing powers. Whenever I freestyle, it feels like therapy. When I choreograph, it feels like I'm speaking. When I'm performing, it feels like I'm talking to the world.
Q: If you could dance with/for anyone who would it be?
A: Technically speaking, I would love to dance with anyone who's music speaks to my soul. I would love to work with The Lumineers, Tierra Whack, SZA, Ruby Ibarra, H.E.R., Frank Ocean, etc. Now, taking this question a little more literally, I would love to dance with everyone I possibly can. I feel like dance belongs to the community and the joy fostered through dance. My favorite feelings is finishing a long intensive with a huge group of dancers, sitting down to dinner, and just bonding because of our shared love of dance.
Q: What is a piece of advice you have for the next generation of Artists?
A: You don't have to impress anybody. Your worth is not measured by your productivity. Don't forget why you love dance. Rejection does not mean your journey is over. Sometimes all the "no"s feel like detours to your destination but really the path we think we're supposed to take is not the one we are truly destined for. Every little thing you do brings you closer to your dreams.
